A chestnut gelding out of a mare named Maybe Markle, could we find a more aptly named thoroughbred than Run Harry Run?
Harry certainly lived right up to his name on October 17 when he comfortably defeated his rivals at Kilmore, recording a very valuable VOBIS win for his connections including $30,000 in VOBIS Platinum vouchers. These vouchers can be used at the upcoming yearling sales on the progeny of VOBIS Sires, or put towards the stallion fee of a VOBIS Sire.
The son of Yulong’s Written Tycoon was purchased at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale by PR Funds of Mark Player and Robert Roulston for $280,000. After just one maiden victory and sixth placing on debut, connections have already won back $38,000 plus over $22,000 in VOBIS bonuses, in addition to the $30,000 in VOBIS Platinum vouchers which are not included in the horse’s individual earnings.
Co-managing owner Roulston said that trainer Mike Moroney believed the gelding had the ability to deliver a win on race day, and that he is a horse that could target some riches at Flemington across Melbourne Cup week.
“It was a terrific win for the horse and for everyone involved. Mike Moroney always said he had ability and it was just fantastic to see him win so easily at only his second start,” Roulston said.
“His next target maybe a race during Cup week.”
Looking at one of Australia’s richest racing incentive programs, VOBIS, Roulston said that he is always looking for the VOBIS sticker on horses, ensuring that they are racing for the thousands of extra dollars on the racetrack, just as Run Harry Run did last start.
“We’ve always kept an eye out for VOBIS nominated horses at the sales. It’s just a great incentive program for the owners and breeders. Run Harry Run is a good example, he’s won the prizemoney, the $10,000 VOBIS Silver Bonus, the $20,000 VOBIS Gold Bonus, and the $30,000 VOBIS Platinum vouchers from this one race. This is quite exciting.
Roulston touched on the ownership group which boasts a strong Victorian presence. He hopes that owners will re-invest in the syndicate with their share of the $30,000 in VOBIS Platinum bonuses, looking to continue reaping the rich Victorian rewards.
“The ownership of this horse includes quite a diverse group of people – we not only have Victorian based owners such as Gerry Ryan, Colin and Janene Madden, Director or Racing Victoria Tim Eddy, Dale Corrigan, Musk Creek and Rifa Mustang, we also have owners from Hong Kong and Ireland and VRC Board Member Neil Werrett. I’m sure everyone has had a bit of fun with the horse, back from the day when he was purchased and subsequently named, and we look forward to many more to come. The group may get back together again and reinvest the Platinum vouchers in another VOBIS horse next year.”
